Organisations that use a variety of applications and information systems can increase competitiveness, increase productivity and reduce
costs by making internal applications and information systems communicate with eachother. Modern applications do this in real-time.
For example, most organisations use an Office suite like Microsoft Office. Usually data processed in documents, spreadsheets etc. comes
from other information systems. By creating software that serves as a data-channel between the Office suit and these information systems, data can be exchanged in real-time. Thus bypassing the need for users to manually re-enter or copy data which is already available in a digital format.
Likewise, organisations may benefit from integrating individual Office applications with eachother. For example, MS Excel spreadsheets and MS Word documents are often combined with data from MS Access database applications.
We typically take advantage of XML technology which has become the Industry standard for integrating applications and information systems. As a result, once an application has been enhanced to exchange its data with other applications, it usually becomes relatively easy to enable other applications to access the same data.
